800wsolar ("we", "us", "our") publishes an independent ledger of UK 800W plug-in and balcony solar kit. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit 800wsolar.co.uk, why, and what choices you have.

Who we are

What we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the site and understand what's useful to readers.

  • Analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics and/or Netlify Analytics) to see aggregate traffic — pages viewed, referrers, rough location by country, device type. These services do not use cookies and do not build a cross-site profile of you.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider (Netlify) and DNS/CDN provider (Cloudflare) automatically log standard request data — IP address, user agent, timestamp — for security and abuse prevention. We do not access these logs to identify individuals.
  • Email address (Solar Savings Brief). If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address, the page you subscribed from and the date, solely to send you register-status and rule-change updates. We do not sell or share this list, and every email carries an unsubscribe route.
  • Installer quote enquiries. If you complete the form on /quotes, we collect your postcode, property type, intended system size, budget range, email address and phone number. We pass these details to a maximum of three vetted installers who cover your postcode, so that they can quote you directly. We do not sell lists, and we do not pass your details to anyone who is not quoting for your job.
  • Affiliate click data. When you click a product link to Amazon or eBay, the retailer's affiliate programme (Amazon Associates, eBay Partner Network) may set its own cookie to attribute the referral. See "Affiliate links" below.
  • Digital product purchases. If you buy one of our digital products, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own checkout page and never touch our servers — we do not see, receive or store them. Stripe holds the transaction record, including the email address you give at checkout, as an independent data controller. We can see which product was bought and when, which we use for accounting and to answer refund requests.

Cookies

800wsolar itself does not set tracking or advertising cookies. Outbound affiliate links to Amazon.co.uk or eBay.co.uk are tracked by those retailers' own affiliate cookies once you leave our site — this is governed by Amazon's and eBay's own privacy policies, not ours. If a future feature (such as saved comparisons) requires a strictly necessary cookie, we will update this policy first.

We are a member of the Amazon Associates Programme and the eBay Partner Network. Product links may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Legal basis for processing

Where we process personal data — a newsletter email address, or the contact details in an installer quote enquiry — we rely on your consent, given by ticking the consent box when you submit the form. Neither form can be submitted without it. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us, and we will unsubscribe you or delete your enquiry record.

When we pass an installer quote enquiry on, each installer becomes an independent data controller for the copy of your details they receive, and their own privacy policy governs what they do with it from that point. We will tell you which installers received your enquiry if you ask.

Data retention

Newsletter email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or until the service is discontinued. Installer quote enquiries are retained for 24 months so that we can answer questions about a job that was quoted, then deleted; you can ask us to delete yours sooner at any time. Aggregate analytics data does not identify individuals and is retained per our analytics provider's standard policy.

How we are paid for quote enquiries

The quotes service is free to you. Installers pay us a fixed fee for a qualified enquiry we pass to them. That fee is the same regardless of which kit you end up buying, whether you go ahead at all, or how large the job is — so it does not influence what the ledger lists as ENA G98 certified, or what our guides recommend. If you are in the UK or EEA, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or port any personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
